No Matter How Busy You Think You Are...

About two weeks ago, during a thunderstorm, the cable and internet at our house went out.  After a call to Comcast, and an estimated four hour interruption in service, I was faced with two prospects for the afternoon:  clean and organize the mess in the basement, or read a book.  Realizing I had only read three books during the summer, I opted for the book.  By the time the cable and internet were restored, sooner than the four hour projection, I had read half a book!

It was a busy summer, but no busier than past summers.  I just didn’t find time for reading books, because I didn't make reading books a priority.  I read a lot on my Kindle, but mostly news, newspapers, magazines.  I read journal articles and reviews of books, but I didn’t read many books.

When I returned to school, I saw this quote from Confucious:  “No matter how busy you think you are, you must find time for reading or surrender yourself to chosen ignorance.”  I find this to be very true.  Going forward this school year, finding time for reading is one of my top priorities, lest I surrender myself to chosen ignorance.
